Frequently Asked Questions
Who are you?
Romance
Reality Check
(RomanceRealityCheck.com aka RRC) is a company offering professional background checks
exclusively for the online dating community.
RRC
operates under
Blackhawk Private Investigations,
a licensed private investigative agency located in California. (For more information on our
experience and certification, please see our “About Us”
page.)
How
do I run background checks on someone I am interested in meeting?
It is pretty
easy to run a background check on someone you’ve recently met or are interested
in meeting. Just go to Our Services and
decide which package works best for you. The more information you can provide
about the subject of the investigation, the more accurate the background report
will be. Take the opportunity to gather as much information about him or her
during your communications (chats, texts, email, etc.). This will help expedite
your background check. All searches are done confidentially. The subject of
the check will not be contacted.
Do I
need permission to run a credit and background check on someone I am interested
in?
Yes and No.
You do need permission to run a credit check on someone.
You do not need permission to carry out a background check.
What
information is provided on a background check?
Background
checks provide a lot of information about the person, such as confirming the
name of the person, address, e-mail address, criminal records, SSN verification,
etc. RRC offers you comprehensive and current information. Through the
background checks you can expect to get all the vital information about a
person. See a detailed list of results and a sample report for each of our
packages here.
Is
it legal to check a person’s background without their consent?
It is
absolutely legal to access the public records for background search even if you
do not have the consent of the person whose record you are searching. All the
records that you are able to access are public records and you can view the
records that are permitted by the law of the state in which the person resides.
Thus, online background record searches are not only cost effective but also
legal. The background record searches that are conducted by RRC do not require
the consent of the person whose record you are searching.
Do
arrest records show on a criminal background check?
When a person
is arrested, it does not necessarily mean they committed a criminal act. Arrest
records show up on the criminal background searches only if there is a
conviction pertaining to the arrest. In general criminal records include arrest
record details if there is a conviction of the person that arises from the
arrest. It is not uncommon to find minor details like the arrest date with the
criminal records. Some states report traffic infractions as a criminal record
and therefore might show up on a background report as a criminal offense.
Juvenile records are not available.
Do
criminal background checks provide information about dismissed cases?
Criminal
background checks can provide information about the dismissed cases but this is
a rare thing until and unless someone tries to delve deeper by conducting
advanced searches. This is something that is not available until and unless one
conducts an advanced online criminal record search. (We offer more in-depth
background checks separate from the packages).
What
steps are taken to conduct a background check?
After we
receive the request, we conduct the searches using the most accurate and
up-to-date databases that are
accessible only to law enforcement, licensed private investigative companies,
and a few select businesses such as skip tracers.
